Kann man den irischen Esprit feiern, ohne den Brexit zu erwähnen? Dieses opereske Desaster einer Demokratie? Aus dem man, wenn überhaupt, nur eines lernen kann: dass es die Nähe ist, die zur Abgrenzung drängt, es ist nicht die Ferne? Dass just das, was Menschen gemeinsam haben  –  Sprache, Geschichte, Kultur, Essen, Wetter, Verkehrsregeln, Supermarktketten und Tierfutter und Humor undsoweiter  –  dass just dies Gemeinsame die Entfremdung fördert, den Drang, sich abzugrenzen? Nämlich von dem, was einem zum Verwechseln ähnelt?

Es ist just dies, warum es Weihnachten gibt. Die Message, die an Weihnachten gefeiert wird, ist kurz gesagt die, dass die Grenze nicht zwischen hier und da verläuft, nicht zwischen Links- oder Rechtsverkehr oder was immer, sondern zwischen oben und unten. Zwischen Palast und Stall, zwischen Himmelbett und Krippe.

Wünschen wir den Boris Johnsons dieser Welt ein Fest der Boris-Besinnung.

Und uns selber eines, das den Celtic Spirit feiert! Es wird ein Fest, ja, eines der traditionellen irischen Musik mit irischen Poems zur Weihnachtszeit und mit einem Ensemble aus Irish Harp und Fiddle, aus Akkordeon, Gitarre und Uilleann Pipes. Allein der Sound jedes einzelnen Instruments erzählt davon, was irisch ist. Und allen gemeinsam, die einen Stall von einem Palast unterscheiden können.

Gemeinsamkeiten schließen Eigentümlichkeiten ein … schon mal vom soft shoe step gehört? Very irish. Es ist ein kleiner Schritt aus der Reihe, auch ihm eine weihnachtliche Hommage! Wer weiß denn schon, ob die drei Weisen aus dem Morgenland nicht recht eigentlich von der Insel gekommen und dann im soft shoe step zum Stall nach Bethlehem getänzelt sind. War es so? Möglich. Weil man es sich vorstellen kann, das Ballett der irischen Schritttechnik, die sich an Weidezäunen entlang tänzelt mit Leichtigkeit und einer Eleganz, die Morgenland und Abendland verbindet …

Irische Weihnachten? So tief im Westen? Wo sonst.


 

Theresa Kavanagh ( Fiddle, Vocals, Dance)

Hailing from Donegal, Theresa Kavanagh’s skills as a traditional Irish fiddler, composer and educator have taken her across the globe. Theresa has performed at some of Celtic Music’s largest festivals; Celtic Connections, Festival Intercetique L’Orient and Celtic Colours, and has also worked with some of Irish Music’s top artists such as Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Manus Lunny, Micheal Mc Goldrick and Donal Lunny. Theresa has composed music for the BBC TV documentary Gleann Bheatha and has collaborated on and composed for international projects such as The Teelin Voyage. Theresa is currently working on an Irish tour of her new album An Choill Uaigneach, an emotional collection of tunes, old and new that will surely have your toes tapping!

Dan O’ Callaghan (Uilleann Pipes, Vocals, Whistles)

Dan lives in the hill of West Cork. He began playing music at the age of 6 or 7yrs old in school which was located in an Irish speaking area. He picked up the Irish Uilleann Pipes in 1982 and started playing professionally in 1989. Dan’s skills have allowed him to work with several companies, both large and intimate. He has toured extensively in Europe, North and South America and Japan.

Aisling Urwin (Harp, Vocals)

Aisling Urwin is a harpist and songwriter from the seaside town of Kenmare in the South West of Ireland. Her broad range of musical influences range from Kate Bush to Bon Iver to Jeff Buckley. Aisling aspires to use the harp in a contemporary context, challenging traditional views in an effort to stretch people’s preconceptions about what the harp should sound like. Her work reflects the sounds of today’s youthful modern Irish traditional music, an ever evolving tradition. Aisling’s music combines the organic sounds of lever harp and natural vocals with rich electronic sounds and textures. Aisling Urwin’s new album, ‘The Dragonfly Jig’, is available online through Spotify, iTunes & all major platforms for streaming and download.

Mike Galvin (Guitar, Vocals)

Mike Galvin from Killarney is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. He has a vast experience working in a wide range of musical styles. A former member of Frankie Gavin & De Dannan, Mike has also worked with the Mike McGoldrick big band and quartet, Dolores Keane, Brian Kennedy, Julian Sutton, Aoife O’Donovan, The Dubliner’s and many more. His performances have wowed audiences at major music festivals such as The North Texas Irish Festival, Celtic Connections, Milwaukie Irish Festival, Cambridge folk festival among others. His White House performances for U.S. Presidents are among his highlights as well as sharing a stage with The Randy Travis band and being billed alongside The Rolling Stones. Mike’s interest in recording, arranging and production has supported his musical knowledge and experience having produced two albums by renowned fiddler Colin Farrell and worked with the RTE Philharmonic Orchestra, performing a Live Broadcast from Opera House of National Grand Theatre. Mike is currently composing music and songs for a new album and looks forward to performing them at future concerts.

Eoin McQuinn ( Bodhrán, Saxophone)

Eoin is a Musician and Composer from the town of Castleisland in North County Kerry. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from University College Cork, and a Master’s Degree in Music from the Irish World Music Centre, University of Limerick. While working in Ireland, Eoin was the Music Director and resident Composer for both the National Dance Company of Ireland and the National Folk Theatre of Ireland and he has given several lectures and workshops on his Music in the Limerick Institute of Technology. His interest and dedication to Music has seen him perform throughout Europe, Australia, U.A.E, Asia and the United States.
